Department of Marketing organized a competitive event based on new product idea generation & development of marketing strategies entitled ‘AIUB Marketing Masterminds 2016’ on December 8, 2016 (Thursday). The objective of the event was to improve the analytical abilities of the students and to offer an opportunity where they can exercise their marketing knowledge by participating in different creative tasks.  

It was a daylong event divided into 3 different rounds, where students from different marketing major courses participated. The first round was Idea Generation, including product category selection, proposing a brand name, designing brand logo, and developing the brand/company slogan. Approximately 50 groups including 4 members in each groups participated in this round. The second round was Development of Print Advertisement, where selected 18 groups from first round were asked to develop a launching print advertisement with promotional offers for their respective products. The third and final round was Marketing Strategies Development & Presentation, where selected 5 groups from the second round had to develop and present their total plan regarding marketing strategies and tactics to commercialize their proposed products to the mass market. After a comprehensive panel judgment, Champion, 1st Runner Up and 2nd Runner Up group were selected respectively as the winners.

The program was officially inaugurated at 10:30 am by Dr. Carmen Z. Lamagna, the Vice Chancellor, AIUB along with Ms. Nadia Anwar, the Vice Chairman, Board of Trustees and Vice President, Student Affairs of AIUB, and Prof. Dr. Charles C. Villanueva, the Pro-Vice Chancellor & Dean, FBA on the ground floor of FBA Building # 1. Prof. Dr. Nisar Ahmed, Director, MBA Program, Mr. Manzur H. Khan, Director, Office of Students Affairs, Faculty Members from the Department of Marketing, Admin Officials, and participating students were also present during the inauguration. Among other guests, Mr. Capt. (Retd.) AB Tajul Islam, MP, and Chairman, Standing Committee, Ministry of Liberation War Affairs and Mr. Bikash Kishore Das, Additional Secretary, Statistics and Informatics Division, Ministry of Planning, Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh also visited during different rounds of the event.

The event was initiated and organized by Mr. Hamidul Islam, & Mr. Stanley Rodrick, Assistant Professors, Department of Marketing in coordination with Dr. Anisur Rahman Faroque, Head, Department of Marketing & Dr. Sahin Sarker, Assistant Professor of the department. All other faculty members from the Department; Ms. Tahsina Khan, Mr. AKM Kamrul Haque, Mr. Partha Prashad Chowdhury, Mr. Saihad S. Rahman, and Mr. Mahmudul Hassan supervised and judged the participants in different rounds and contributed to make the event a successful one. Mr. Faridul Alam, Head, Department of Accounting and Finance, was also present as the chair of the judge panel during the final round of the event. Lira Group of Industries supported the event as the key sponsor.

At the end of the event, Prof. Dr. Charles C. Villanueva, Prof. Dr. Nisar Ahmed, and Mr. Mohammad Faridul Alam shared their inspiring words with vote of thanks to the organizers and the participating students and then presented Trophies, Crests and Certificates of Recognition to the Champions, Runner Ups, and the Finalists.
